Johannesburg:

South African opener Alviro Petersen has signed a contract with Welsh county Glamorgan to play in the England county championship next season.

He will also get the opportunity to expand his leadership skills. He is currently captain of the bizhub Highveld Lions franchise and will fulfill the same role for Glamorgan.

"I am delighted to have signed for Glamorgan for the 2010/2011 County season," Petersen commented. "I am looking forward to making a significant difference where I can at the county and to further grow my cricketing CV.

"It is also an honour to be given the captain's armband and hopefully I will help to bring some silverware to the SWALEC Stadium in Cardiff."

Petersen is likely to be available for the whole England summer as he is currently not involved in the Indian Premier League and the Proteas have no off-season commitments at present.
