2nd Test, Day 4: Statistical highlights from India's win

India registered a five-wicket win against New Zealand on Monday to claim the Test series 2-0, in Bangalore. A look at the statistical highlights from the fourth and final day's play.

# With 1590 runs (ave. 37.85) in 57 innings, Sachin Tendulkar has set a record for most runs in the fourth innings in Tests, outstripping Rahul Dravid's tally of 1575 (ave.40.38) in 57 innings.

# In three consecutive innings Sachin has been dismissed 'bowled' - an unwanted feat achieved by him for the second time in his Test career - the first instance being against England in England in 2002 when he was bowled by Matthew Hoggard, Dominic Cork and Michael Vaughan.

# Tendulkar's tally of 51 'bowled' dismissals is the third highest in Tests, behind Rahul Dravid (55) and Allan Border (53).

# Suresh Raina has registered his second duck against New Zealand - his sixth in Tests.

# Virat Kohli has received his first Man of the Match award for playing two outstanding innings.

# Kohli has posted a century and a fifty in the same Test match for the first time.  His tally of 154 (103 & 51 not out) is his best feat in a Test match, overtaking the 138 (116 & 22) against Australia at Adelaide in January this year.

# Kohli's runs' tally of 212 (ave.106.00) is the second highest in the recently concluded series, next only to the 216 by Pujara.

# Kohli has recorded five consecutive innings of fifty or more in Tests in India - 52 & 63 against the West Indies in Mumbai in November 2011; 58 at Hyderabad, 103 & 51 not out at Bangalore - all three in the just concluded series against New Zealand - his aggregate being 327 at an average of 81.75.

# Kohli is the sixth Indian player to register a hundred and a fifty in a Test match against New Zealand. Rahul Dravid had accomplished the feat twice, including a hundred in each innings once.

# The unbroken 96-run sixth wicket stand between Dhoni and Kohli is India's third highest for the sixth wicket in the fourth innings of a Test match - the highest is 136 between Tendulkar and Nayan Mongia against Pakistan at Chennai in January 1999.

# Ravichandran Ashwin has got the Player of the series award for taking 18 wickets at 13.11 runs apiece - the most by a bowler in the series.  He has amassed 69 runs at an average of 69.00 as a batsman.

# Ashwin has been adjudged the Player of the series for the second time in Tests - the first was for taking 22 wickets at 22.90 runs apiece and totalling 121 (ave.40.33) against the West Indies in India in 2011-12.

# Ashwin is averaging 17.74 in four Indian wins, claiming 31 wickets, including four instances of five wickets or more and ten wickets in a Test match once.

# India (262/5) have posted their third highest fourth innings successful chase on Indian soil - the two highest are: 387 for four against England in Chennai in 2008-09 and 276 for five against West Indies in Delhi in 2011-12.

# India's aforesaid total is their fifth highest fourth innings successful chase in Test Cricket - the highest is 406 for four against the West Indies at Port of Spain in 1975-76.

# Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag were involved in a stand of 77 = India's first fifty-plus stand in twelve innings in Tests.

# India have won three Tests in a row against New Zealand - by an innings and 198 runs at Nagpur in 2010-11 followed by an innings and 115 runs at Hyderabad and by 5 wickets at Bangalore in the recently concluded rubber.

# India have won three Tests in a row against New Zealand for the second time.  They had first won three Tests in succession againt New Zealand in the 1960s - by 8 wickets at Wellington, by 272 runs at Auckland in 1967-68 and by 60 runs at Mumbai in 1968-69.

# India have won three Test series in a row against New Zealand - 1-0 in 2008-09 in New Zealand; 1-0 in 2010-11 in India and 2-0 in 2012 in India.

# The aforesaid feat has been recorded by India for the second time against New Zealand - the first instance being 2-0 in 1955-56 in India, 1-0 in 1964-65 in India and 3-1 in 1967-68 in New Zealand.

# India have won all three Tests against New Zealand at Bangalore - by 172 runs in 1988-89; by 8 wickets in 1995-96 and by 5 wickets in 2012.

# India have won 14 Tests out of 20 played in India under Mahendra Singh Dhoni's leadership - the most by an Indian skipper at home, overtaking Mohammad
Azharuddin's tally of 13 triumphs in 20 Tests in India.

# Dhoni's winning % of 48.71 is the best among Indian skippers (minimum qualification: five) - 19 victories, 10 losses and 10 drawn games out of 39 played.
