Australia have won four successive tosses against India for the fourth time - Perth and Adelaide in 2011-12 and Chennai and Hyderabad in 2012-13.

# Since Pakistan's declaration at 130 for 9 against England at Lord's in August 1974, Australia have provided the first instance of a team declaring on the first day of a Test match.

# Playing in his second Test match, Bhuvneshwar Kumar (3/53) has produced his best bowling performance.  In his debut Test at Chepauk, he had gone wicketless - his figures being 13-1-52-0 in Australia's first innings.

# Kumar's first three wickets were the first by an Indian speedster in the present series.
