About Amit Kumar
He is young, is fast and extremely agile. While experience and the lack of it may work against him, there is no shortage of spirit in Amit Kumar who will represent India on the wrestling mat in the London Olympics.
One of the youngest members of the Indian contingent in London, Amit is a prolific fighter who has a knack for upsets and can deliver when least expected. What may work to his advantage is that while not many wrestlers have seen much of him before and run the risk of under-estimating his abilities.
Hailing from Nahri village in Sonepat (Haryana), he began wrestling at age seven. He, reportedly, once defeated a senior (by 5 years) when he was in the second grade, in a wrestling match. That was the real beginning of his career as a wrestler.
He will meet many seniors on the wrestling mat again, this time in London. He will hope for the same success as he had years ago although the stage and expectations this time will be a much more. He will wrestle in the 55kg category.
