Yuki Bhambri: New star on the horizon

New Delhi:

He may not be as well known as his elder siblings, but Yuki Bhambri is slowly and steadily creating quite a name for himself on the junior tennis circuit in the country. But surprisingly, with so much tennis in the house, this wasn't the reason why Yuki took up the game. "Tennis is an individual sport and this is the reason I chose tennis as a profession. All the rest of the games are team games," he maintains. Eventful months The last six months have been the most eventful in the life of Yuki Bhambri. He won an ITF U-14 title in October in Sri Lanka and then in January this year, he made it to the semi-finals of the Australian National Under-14 Championship. This event consisted of a field of 128 from Australia. "Before going to Australia, I worked quite hard, served a lot of balls and played a lot of tennis. When I reached the semi-finals, I thought I can perform as well anywhere else in the world. If against the Australian boys, I can reach the semi-finals, so why not in my own country," says Yuki. Mahesh Bhupathi had once said that the future of tennis in India is women's tennis. However, 12-year-old Yuki could just prove that wrong.
