Vienna:

Paradorn Srichaphan of Thailand added to Spaniard Albert Costa's woes at the BA-CA Trophy in the Austrian capital Vienna on Wednesday, winning 6-4, 6-4 in their first round encounter. Costa, the 2002 French Open champion, has now lost his last five matches - stretching back to Long Island in the USA last August. Srichaphan is joined in the second round by Taylor Dent of the United States and Rainer Schuettler of Germany. Srichaphan struggled with his serve throughout the match, but would still prove too strong for Costa. The Spaniard's frustrations boiled over at 3-3 in the first set when he received a warning for an audible obscenity after a forehand error handed his opponent three break points. The Thai converted the first of those points to lead 4-3 and then served out comfortably to take the first set 6-4. Costa stepped up a gear in the second set, getting more winners but also making more unforced errors. But Srichaphan, with the help of an overrule, broke in the ninth game and then served out to win 6-4, 6-4 in just over an hour. (AP)
