Sania once again, dedicated her second Grand Slam women's doubles title to the "people of India" and looks forward to her sister Anam's wedding engagement.
"I always dedicate my victories back to the people of India. I thank everyone for their love and support and winning the US Open was great," Sania said.
"Focus is now on something different. I feel like I am invited for the engagement and am excited about it and looking forward to the next couple of days," she said.
On Sunday, an emotional Sania slammed critics who had questioned the government's decision to award her the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award this year. A multiple Grand Slam champion, Sania was an unanimous choice for the country's highest sporting award but it ran into controversy after paralympian H Girisha went to the court and questioned if the tennis queen was indeed deserving.
The media too joined in the controversy and gave Girisha ample publicity. Saia was clearly not amused. After conquering Flushing Meadows with Hingis, she told NDTV, "All I know is that I've helped a lot of people sell their newspapers and get TRPs up over my career. I am glad that people have got me so much of publicity out of absolutely no issues.
"I play tennis and I try and win. I play for myself and my country and for my family. I don't get into who says what, I just answer with my racquet. I just play and that gives me the most joy," she said. (Two to Tango, This Chemistry Rocks)
