Djokovic and Jelena met 10 years ago and the Serb tennis superstar chose a sports bar in Monte Carlo for their first date.
"In my eyes at the time it was a very exclusive place to take her. I wanted to impress her so I took her to this place," he said. (Djokovic Could Face Roger Federer in Australian Open Semis)
Jelena was not impressed. "Well, no! It was a sports bar," she said.
"Awkward moment, he wanted to order for me, it was not what I expected," she added.
What a "nervous" 18-year-old Djokovic ordered for the most "wonderful girl" sitting across?
Answer: Steak tartare! A dish which is served raw.
"I knew she liked steak so I ordered for her," Djokovic said.
But it was not what the couple was expecting. They called in the waiter over to explain the steak was underdone to which the waiter said, "Steak tartare is always served raw."
The 28-year-old Serb says they can now laugh "every time we see a steak tartare on the menu, it reminds us of our first date."
Djokovic is in Melbourne to defend his Australian Open crown and like always, Jelena will be seen in the stands cheering for her husband.
