The talented Karan Rastogi of India went down fighting to the fourth-seeded Mathieu Montcourt of France 4-6, 5-7 in the second round of the Australian Open Junior Championship in Melbourne today.
The 16-year-old Rastogi, ranked 72 in the ITF Junior World Ranking compared to the French player who is at five, gave some anxious moments to his opponent in the second set.
Karan Rastogi, who teamed up with Somdev Dev Varman, was not lucky in the boys doubles event also.
The duo was defeated in a closely contested match in the first round, losing to the fifth seeded Andis Juska (Latvia) and Micael Zverev (Germany) 1-6, 6-1, 4-6.
Somdev (ranked 78) will take on Guy Thomas of Britain in a second round singles match tomorrow. (PTI)
