India's Somdev Devvarman started his French Open campaign with a victory in the first round on Sunday.
The unseeded Indian beat Daniel Munoz-De La Nava of Spain 6-3 6-3 7-5 to set up second round clash with second seed Roger Federer.
Earlier, Federer enjoyed an untroubled start to his 54th consecutive Grand Slam.
The 2009 champion, who is hunting an 18th major, saw off Spanish qualifier Pablo Carreno-Busta, the world number 166, 6-2, 6-2, 6-3.
