Paris:

South Africa's Wayne Ferreira was carried off the court on a stretcher after injuring his right groin during a third-round match against Germany's Rainer Schuettler at the French Open. Schuettler led 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (3), 2-3, when Ferreira was hurt. The 31-year-old South African was chasing a forehand when he fell into a split and landed on his back. Schuettler, the No 11 seed, rushed over to Ferreira's side of the court with ice for the South African to apply to his upper leg. Trainers eventually carried Ferreira away on a stretcher as he waved both arms to an applauding audience. This French Open marked Ferreira's 50th straight Grand Slam tournament -- a run that started at Wimbledon 1990. He holds second place to Stefan Edberg of Sweden, who competed in 54 consecutive Grand Slams. (AP)
