Svetlana Kuznetsova powered Russia into the Fed Cup semi-finals by defeating Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 in the first reverse singles.

Svetlana Kuznetsova powered Russia into the Fed Cup semi-finals by defeating Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 in the first reverse singles.

This gives the home team an unassailable 3-0 lead over Spain in the best-of-five tie.

After losing the second set, world number five Kuznetsova took complete control in the third, hammering the Spanish number one into submission after one hour and 42 minutes at the Luzhniki Arena in Moscow.

Russia went on to win the tie 5-0 with Anna Chakvetadze beating Nuria Llagostera Vives 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2.

Meanwhile, Nadia Petrova and Elena Vesnina downed Laura Pous-Tio and Lourdes Dominguez-Lino 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 in the doubles.
