World number one Roger Federer battled back from a break down in the final set to fend off a rejuvenated Lleyton Hewitt 6-3 6-7 7-6 on Saturday to reach the final of the Cincinnati Masters.

The Swiss ace will play American 9th seed James Blake in the finals after he beat Nikolay Davydenko 6-4, 6-2 in their semi-final match.

Federer roared back from 3-2 down in the third set to win the match.

Despite a series of forehand errors, Federer won the first set thanks to some superb serving but Hewitt hit back, saving a match point at 6-5 in the tiebreak before snatching it 9-7 to force a decider.

Federer raised his game in the final set to level at 3-3 but after missing a couple of match points in the 10th game, he won the deciding tie break 7-1 to take his place in the final.
