Bangkok Open: Wozniak upsets Olaru

Aleksandra Wozniak of Canada defeated eighth-seeded Ioana Raluca Olaru of Romania 7-5, 6-4 to advance on Monday to the second round of the Bangkok Open.

Australian rising star Casey Dellacqua took advantage of a string of unforced errors by Severine Bremond of France to cruise to a 6-2, 6-4 victory, while Junior Wimbledon champion Urszula Radwanska of Poland trounced Romanian teenager Sorana Cirstea of Romania 6-0, 6-3 in just 66 minutes.

France's Camille Pin defeated Jelena Kostanic Tosic of Croatia, who withdrew after Pin won their first set 7-5.

First seed Jelena Jankovic, the world No 3 and second seed Venus Williams, are due to play their first round matches on Tuesday.

Wimbledon champion Venus Williams denied rumors of her suffering any injuries as she prepared to play in the Bangkok Open. She visited a tournament trainer Monday afternoon and insisted that she was physically fine.

Williams has been playing three straight weeks in Asia, winning in Seoul before reaching the final last week in Tokyo, where she lost to Virginie Razzano of France.

Williams who will play her first match in Bangkok with 17-year-old Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, whom she beat 6-4, 6-4 in Memphis this year.
