Top seed Serena Williams swept into the Australian Open second round on Tuesday with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Alison Van Uytvanck of Belgium.
The American 18-time Grand Slam champion, who is chasing her sixth title at Melbourne Park, made short work of the world number 106, claiming victory in just over one hour.
