Defending Women's Singles Champion Serena Williams has crashed out of the Australian Open.
The seventh seeded Serena lost in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 to third-seeded Serbian Jelena Jankovic in the quarter finals.
In a match that saw both players earning numerous break-points, Jankovic won the first set 6-3 in just 35 minutes.
Serena put up a much stronger fight in the second, which lasted a shade over an hour. But the defending champion's 36 unforced errors and five double-faults eventually cost her.
Jankovic now plays the winner of the match between Justine Henin and Maria Sharapova in the semi-finals.
