The Romanian was upset in the last-16 in the Emirates as she continues to struggle for form this year.
Serena Williams, who did not play in Dubai due to injury, remains well ahead atop the rankings with Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber, who is down to play in Qatar this week, her closest rival.
