Beijing:
Kolhapur-born Khade, dubbed the fastest swimmer in his age group, clocked 50.07 to better his previous mark of 50.49 in men's 100m Freestyle to finish overall 42nd.
Sejwal did even better knocking down three seconds off his own previous mark of 2:18.23 and clocked 2:15.24.
"This is a great achievement and double joy for us. A place in the semifinals was out of our reach but that's the next best thing we could have. Two new national records in the same evening, it augurs well for us," coach Nihar Amin told PTI.
"Both of them are young and have age on their side. They can go on to do even better and raise their level. Virdhawal has been in excellent form and is fastest in his age group but Sejwal too did an excellent job. Improving the national record by three seconds is not a matter of joke," Amin said.
Indian swimming duo of Virdhawal Khade and Sandeep Sejwal gave their best to create twin national records even if that was not enough to see them through in the semifinals of the 100m Freestyle and 200m Breaststroke events respectively at the Beijing Olympic here on Tuesday.Kolhapur-born Khade, dubbed the fastest swimmer in his age group, clocked 50.07 to better his previous mark of 50.49 in men's 100m Freestyle to finish overall 42nd.
