From the time she lifted a gun for the first time to becoming a champion shooter, Anjali Bhagwat's life is being retold in a new TV show titled 'Mujhe Pankh De Do', which narrates real life inspirational stories of women who battled against all odds to realise their dreams.
The show is being aired every Sunday, starting October 20, on general entertainment channel 'Life Ok'.
"I am really excited and looking forward to the show. It feels happy that they are portraying my life on TV," Anjali told PTI.
"I gave the woman, who is playing me in the show, my old rifle and jacket trouser. My students assisted them (crew) while shooting, which took place at Balewadi (Range near Pune)," the former world number one air rifle shooter and multiple medallist at the Commonwealth Games and World Cups said.
Asked what the show will exactly depict, Anjali said, "They will show my childhood, how I practised, how I became a shooter and all."
The initiative stands for empowerment of women so that they can take charge of their destinies and follow their dreams, she said.
The seven-episode series will trace the journey of successful women like Anjali, producer Ekta Kapoor, Chhavi Rajawat, sarpanch of village Soda near Jaipur in Rajasthan to name a few.
Anjali has won 12 gold and four silver medals in the Commonwealth Games. She is a Commonwealth record holder in 10m Air Rifle and Sports Rifle 3P. She became the world number one in 10m Air Rifle in 2002.
The only Indian to have won the ISSF Champions Trophy in Air Rifle Men and Women mixed event at Munich in 2002, Anjali has represented India in three consecutive Olympics, and was a finalist in the 2000 Sydney Games, again a first for any Indian women shooter.
