+ 1135 GMT: AUSTRALIA TAKE GOLD IN MEN'S 470 SAILING RACE

Aussie pair Matt Belcher and Malcolm Page triumph, but Luke Patience and Stuart Bithell from Great Britain are so happy with their silver that they somersault off their boat into the water. Bronze goes to Argentina's Juan de la Fuente and Lucas Calabrese. (Read here)

A lot of very happy-looking men stand atop capsized boats off Weymouth.

+1250 GMT: OUSSAMA MELLOULI OF TUNISIA WINS GOLD IN MEN'S 10,000 METRE SWIM

Mellouli takes it in 1:49.55. Thomas Lurz of Germany gets the silver and Richard Weinberger of Canada takes bronze. (Read here)

There are huge cheers for Mellouli as he slaps that finishing board! He even cheers himself as he walks from the water.

+ 1542 GMT: MARIS STROMBERGS OF LATVIA DEFENDS MEN'S BMX TITLE. Australian Sam Willoughby takes silver and Carlos Mario Oquendo Zabala of Colombia claims bronze.

Strombergs shoots off the eight-metre high ramp and quickly builds a slight lead on the rest of the field, fending off a late fightback from Willoughby to cross the line first. (Read here)

+ 1918 GMT: In the men's POLE VAULT final Steve Hooker's reign as Olympic champion has ended with a whimper.

The "yips" that have dogged his recent career returned to haunt the Australian who fails with three attempts to clear 5.65 metres. (Read here)

+ 1920 GMT: ETHIOPIAN MESERET DEFAR WINS WOMEN'S 5000M.

Defar, who also won the 5000m at the Athens Games in 2004, falls to the ground sobbing after storming the home straight to finish first in 15:04.25.

World champion Vivian Cheruiyot of Kenya takes silver in 15:04.73 while Ethiopia's Tirubnesh Dibaba has to settle for bronze with 15:05.15. (Read here)

+ 1939 GMT: USA WIN WOMEN'S 4X100M GOLD IN WORLD RECORD TIME

The Americans speed to gold and a new world record in an incredible 40.82 -- breaking the 41.37 record set by East Germany back in 1985. (Read here)

Jamaica's quartet finish second and break their national record with a 41.41 run while Ukraine also broke their national record for bronze in 42.04.

+ 2004 GMT: TURKEY'S ASLI CAKIR ALPTEKIN WINS WOMEN'S 1500M.

Turkey's Asli Cakir Alptekin wins the women's 1500m in 4:10.23. Another Turk, Gamze Bulut, takes silver in 4:10.40, with Bahrain's Ethiopian-born Maryam Jamal claiming bronze (4:10.74). (Read here)

+ 2023 GMT: BAHAMAS WINS MEN'S 4x400M RELAY GOLD.

The Bahamas time a national record of 2:56.72 for their first gold in the event -- in what is really only a two-team race in the final leg. (Read here)

The USA's Tony McQuay is first to hand over the baton in the final changeover but anchorman Angelo Taylor couldn't keep up with with Ramon Miller of the Bahamas. The USA claimed silver in 2:57.05 while Trinidad and Tobago took bronze in a national record of 2:59.40.

Double amputee Oscar Pistorius's hopes of a historic medal never looked likely as South Africa finished eighth and last. (Read here)

+ 2132 GMT: In TAEKWONDO, reigning champion Hwang Kyung-Seon retains her title in the women's under-67kg division. South Korea's Hwang, the overwhelming favourite, dominates Turkey's Nur Tatar 12-5 in the final. (Read here)

+ 2135 GMT: USA DEFEAT ARGENTINA TO REACH MEN'S BASKETBALL FINAL. (Read here)

Kevin Durant scores 19 points and LeBron James adds 18 to lead the US team of NBA stars 109-83 over Argentina, into the final against Spain.

That showdown will be a rematch of the 2008 Olympic final and it's the 15th time the USA will have reached the medal game in 17 attempts.
