Fans of Saurav Ganguly, who is to play his first match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) against Kings XI Punjab in Mohali Sunday, are hopeful that the former Indian captain puts up a good show.
"We want 'dada' (as Ganguly is popularly known) to open the innings for Pune Warriors. He has a good record at Mohali stadium and we all want him to play a good knock. He is a very intelligent cricketer and his vast experience will certainly benefit Pune Warriors," Aditi Sharma, a hardcore Ganguly fan, told IANS.
Ganguly, 38, who was ignored by all teams at this year's IPL auctions, made a dramatic return Tuesday when he was signed for the Pune Warriors India in place of an injured fast bowler Ashish Nehra.
Vibhu Banerjee said: "Though earlier I was supporting local team Kings XI Punjab, but now I want Pune warriors to win the match. Presence of Ganguly in their squad made all the difference."
Ganguly will play under the captaincy of Yuvraj Singh. Ironically, Yuvraj made his in international debut under the captaincy of Ganguly.
"Hopefully, he will get us a win. It is good to have him back. I just feel someone who has been captain of Indian team for a long time can always help the youngsters," Yuvraj told reporters here at Sector 16 cricket stadium.
