That's a wrap for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026! A fantastic season comes to an end. RCB started it off with a victory in the first match, and they end it off with a win too. From the class of Virat Kohli to the freakish talent of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, it has been an IPL season to remember.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru lift the IPL 2026 trophy! Rajat Patidar is the first one to lift the cup, with Virat kohli punching the air in delight. A sensational campaign for RCB, who become only the third team to win the IPL in back-to-back seasons.

RCB captain Rajat Patidar: "It feels superb. When we came here there was a lot of memories of last year. I don't have words to express but feeling very good. It was clear planning. When we win the toss, it was easy to chase. Ee Saala Cup Namdu!"

GT captain Shubman Gill: "If we would have got close to 180-190, it would have been a good match. First three four overs there is some movement for the fast bowlers and we lost momentum after losing a couple of early wickets. We gave away 15-20 runs in the powerplay. After losing the first couple of games we came back. Very happy. We couldn't get over the line but there would have always been areas to improve even if we won the trophy."

Gujarat Titans' South African speedster Kagiso Rabada wins the Purple Cap award for the most wickets in IPL 2026. Rabada ends on 29 scalps, one ahead of RCB's Bhuvneshwar Kumar. 

It is the second time that Rabada has won the Purple Cap, having done so in 2020 as well.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, at the age of 15, wins both the Orange Cap and the 'Most Valuable Player' (MVP) award for IPL 2026. 776 runs in 15 games this season, 44 ahead of the next-best. 436.5 MVP points too, which is the second-highest ever accumulated by a player in an IPL season.

KKR's Manish Pandey wins the 'Best Catch of the Season' award for his terrific one-handed diving catch at backward point to dismiss RCB's Tim David.

Mohammed Siraj wins the 'Green Dot Balls' award for the most dots bowled in IPL 2026, while Sooryavanshi wins the 'Super Sixes' award for the most maximums in the season!

Punjab Kings win the 'Fairplay Award'!

First two of many awards tonight for 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. He wins the 'Emerging Player of the Season' award, and the 'Super Striker of the Season' award. A strike-rate of more than 237 this season!

Virat Kohli wins the 'Player of the Match' award, for his spectacular 75* off 42 in the final tonight. A masterful knock. "It was a dream of mine to hit the winning runs in an IPL final, and today it came true," Kohli says.

675 runs in 16 matches in IPL 2026. One century. Four years in a row of 600+ runs. Virat Kohli continues to age like fine wine.

A stellar IPL 2026 campaign ends with the silver medal for Shubman Gill and Gujarat Titans. The most successful opening pair and the most successful bowling unit of the season, but ultimately second-best in the final. 

Virat Kohli proved why he is the greatest to ever chase today. Started off with a bang, and then controlled his innings beautifully. Slammed his fastest IPL half-century on the night of the final. Battled past the pain of an injury to stay not out right to the end. 75* off 42 to take his beloved RCB to the trophy.

Virat Kohli: "I said to a few of the boys that there doesn't seem to be the same kind of pressure that was there last year. Composure of the guys shone through tonight. Just to have a group of guys where you don't feel that you are the only guy who has step up for the team is amazing."

Back-to-back IPL titles for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. 2025 was the end of a long wait, 2026 has been absolute dominance. RCB topped the IPL table, and have looked like the most balanced team in the tournament from Match 1 to Match 74. Deserved winners, it has to be said!

Gujarat Titans recovered from a poor start to post 155, and they have Washington Sundar to thank in large part. Sundar got a huge lifeline early in his innings, as the third umpire ruled Jordan Cox's catch to be illegal. He played patiently thereon, before accelerating towards the end and slamming his third half-century of the season.

RCB's bowlers have given their side the best chance of winning back-to-back IPL titles. The damage started right from the powerplay, as Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan both failed to score big. RCB kept taking wickets at regular intervals - Rasikh got three, Bhuvneshwar and Hazlewood two each.

156 is a target that Virat Kohli and co. will back themselves to chase down.

Shubman Gill has to walk back for just 10 on the final day.

The umpire gave it out, but Sudharsan took a DRS review. UltraEdge shows no spike, so Sudharsan survives! Shubman Gill gets off the mark on the final ball.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru wins the toss and opts to bowl! Shubman Gill calls 'heads' but it falls 'tails'. However, Gill says that he is happy with Patidar's decision, stating that he wanted to bat first.

Apart from the head-to-head record, one more historical factos favours RCB heading into the final. Since 2018, the winner of Qualifier 1 has won the IPL final every single time. RCB, having won Qualifier 1, will be favourites to beat GT again.

"It's a mixed soil wicket, a mixture of red and black soil. I think that makes it a very, very good batting wicket first up. The first thing I notice when I come and look at it is that it's very even and very flat. That doesn't necessarily mean that it's going to be an absolute belter. I think that this might be slightly on the slower side. If you win the toss, I think you're chasing later on. It gets better and better," say Aaron Finch and Ian Bishop at the pitch report.

We are just about half an hour away from toss time in the IPL 2026 final in Ahmedabad. A crowd in excess of 100,000 people is expected at the Narendra Modi Stadium for the blockbuster clash tonight!

RCB's second selection dilemma comes in the form of selecting one of Romario Shepherd or Jacob Duffy. Duffy played in Qualifier 1, in seam-friendly conditions in Ahmedabad. However, Shepherd might get the nod today, given the pressure of a final and the need for an extra batter.

It will be very interesting to see what the toss-winning captain elects to do. Bowling first has been the trend of IPL 2026, but cast your minds back to the T20 World Cup final at this very stadium, and Team India batted first and won!

15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi leads the way, but Kagiso Rabada, Shubman Gill and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are all in with a realistic shot at fighting for the IPL 2026 Most Valuable Player (MVP) award tonight. 

Sooryavanshi is first with 436.5 points, with Kagiso Rabada second on 408 points, Shubman Gill fourth on 364.5 and Bhuvneshwar Kumar fifth on 354.5.

RCB's star opener Phil Salt played the first six matches, but then has been out injured. Although he has been available for selection in the last couple of games, RCB have not risked playing him, instead sticking with the in-form Venkatesh Iyer at the top.

With Venkatesh striking well and boasting a good record in IPL finals, RCB may choose to stay with the left-hander for tonight's big clash.

For all his success and consistency, Virat Kohli does not boast a particular envious record in IPL finals. In his 4 IPL final appearances till date, Kohli has made 139 runs at an average of 34.75 and a poor strike-rate of 126.36. Can he finally make his mark in the biggest game of the IPL tonight?

Gujarat Titans openers Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill have been pillars of consistency for multiple seasons now, but IPL 2026 has arguably been their best year as a pair. Together, Gill and Sai Sudharsan have amassed nearly 1,500 runs this season, and are two of only three players to score 700+ runs. A good start from them is instrumental to GT's success in the final, even more so given their shaky middle-order.

Is there a threat of rain? According to AccuWeather, the chance of precipitation is 0% for the entire evening on Sunday. However, as per the weather forecast, there is also a Yellow Alert in Ahmedabad due to the possibility of thunderstorms.

An intense battle for the Orange Cap (most runs) and Purple Cap (most wickets) is set to commence tonight. Gujarat Titans openers Shubman Gill (722 runs) and Sai Sudharsan (710 runs) are not too far behind Orange Cap leader Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (776).

Meanwhile, there is set to be a direct battle for the Purple Cap. GT's Kagiso Rabada (28 wickets) is slightly ahead of RCB's Bhuvneshwar Kumar (26 wickets). 

The IPL winning team receives a grand cash prize of Rs 20 crore! RCB and GT will be fighting it out for the huge prize today, along with the IPL 2026 trophy. 

A major role is set to be played by the bowling units of RCB and GT in deciding today's final. Bhuvneshwar Kumar (Rs 10.75 crore), Josh Hazlewood (Rs 12.5 crore) and Rasikh Dar (Rs 6 crore) have been a potent trio all season. 

On the other hand, GT's pace attack has arguably been better. Kagiso Rabada (Rs 10.75 crore), Mohammed Siraj (Rs 12.25 crore), Prasidh Krishna (Rs 9.5 crore) and Jason Holder (Rs 7 crore) all have more than 16 wickets this season!

Together, the 7 players cost a combined Rs 68.75 crore!

RCB and GT have faced off 9 times in IPL history, with RCB winning on 5 occasions, and GT winning 4 times. RCB also hold the slight edge this season (2-1), and have already beaten GT in Qualifier 1. 

It is Virat Kohli vs Shubman Gill. The 'King' vs 'Prince' of modern-day Indian cricket. A battle of generations for the crown of IPL champion. Two men who have had stellar seasons and led their teams to the final. But only one will stand tall with the crown on his head. 

Gujarat Titans are in the IPL final for the third time in five seasons. It is a staggering feat in itself that they only entered the IPL in 2022, but have already reached the final three times. Can they win their second title today? They have the advantage of playing in their home ground!

Royal Challengers Bengaluru ended 18 years of wait last year, winning the IPL title for the very first time. And now they stand on the verge of winning it two years in a row, and becoming only the third franchise to do so. They topped the points table, won Qualifier 1, and are certainly slight favourites.
