The IPL 2024 has seen a series of humongous scores - almost unheard of in the history of T20 cricket. Never before the 265-mark was breached in the IPL before. But in the first four weeks, the mark was breached by two different teams on four occasions. SunRisers Hyderabad have been at the forefront of big scores in the IPL 2024. They have so far scored 287/3 (vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru), 277/3 (vs Mumbai Indians) and 266/7 (vs Delhi Capitals). Kolkata Knight Riders scored 272/7 (vs Delhi Capitals).Â
In the match against Delhi Capitals, SRH scored a world record 125 in six overs with Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma dealing only in boundaries. SRH breached the 100-run mark in just five overs.Â
Pakistan pace legend Wasim Akram was asked about the high scores and his reaction was interesting.Â
"Scoring 100 in five overs is illegal. Even if you bowl full toss, that can't happen. You are paying the bowlers to get hit. I do feel for the bowlers in this format. But it is what it is. Bowlers have to think outside the box. Scoring 100 in five overs is unreal," Wasim Akram said on Sportskeeda
"(Speaking about SRH) We all love Australians, the way they play. Who says fast bowler can lead well. It is a different matter, when Pakistan made a fast bowler a captain (Shaheen Afridi). Then SRH have Travis Head, another dangerous player. Don't in any league there is a more fearsome batting unit than SRH's. Heinrich Klaasen is one of my favourite players in T20 cricket. He can hit sixes on any ball. Abdul Samad is a great finisher. That is the reason why SRH is at No. 2. Pat Cummins' captaincy has calmed the team.Â
"Scoring 270 plus is just too much. It's like scoring 500 in a 50-over game. Thank God I am not bowling. It shows how cricket has changed. Boundaries are less but grounds are same for 30 years. Hitting, abtting have changed." Â
