A confident Royal Challengers Bangalore will look to carry on their winning momentum when they take on title holders Mumbai Indians, who will be low on belief after losing their opener to Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League in Dubai on Friday.

Star-studded RCB opened their IPL 7 campaign on a resounding note as they crushed a new-look Delhi Daredevils by eight wickets in Sharjah last night. Yuvraj Singh, who faced immense criticism after his disappointing knock in ICC World Twenty20 final, silenced his detractors with a brilliant unbeaten 52 and shared 84 runs in just 7.9 overs with captain Virat Kohli (49 not out) for the unconquered third wicket stand to help RCB chase down Daredevils' 145-run target with 20 balls to spare.

Down with a back injury, RCB did not have the services of the explosive Chris Gayle last night but it hardly made any impact on RCB's chase. The decision of RCB, who had retained big boys Kohli, Gayle and AB de Villiers for the seventh edition, to shell out a whopping Rs 14 crore for Yuvraj bore fruit as the left-hander justified his price tag with the brilliant half-century knock.

RCB's best finish was the runners-up trophy in 2009 and 2011 but this time around the team would be hoping to ride on the performances of the big boys to clinch their maiden IPL title. RCB's bowling was considered their weak link but against the Daredevils on Thursday, their bowlers did just enough to restrict the opponents to a modest 145 for four.

While Mitchell Starc generated pace upfront even though he went for a few runs, Albie Morkel and Varun Aaron were right on their money. In fact Aaron (9 for one in 3 overs) bowled a misery spell but Bengal pacer Ashok Dinda leaked runs. The star of the day was young leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who was adjudged man-of-the-match for his spell of 4-0-18-1

EARLY SETBACK FOR MUMBAI

The defending champions got off to the worst possible start when they went down to Kolkata Knight Riders by 41 runs. Jacques Kallis, Manish Pandey and Sunil Narine were all over Mumbai. Only Lasith Malinga showed any fight with an excellent spell of bowling. Mumbai Indians will be hoping to put their misfortune behind them and turn things wround against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Royal Challengers Bangalore got off to the perfect start possible as they brushed aside Delhi Daredevils. Yuvraj Singh, who received criticism from some quarters for his slow batting during India's loss against Sri Lanka in the recent World T20 in Bangladesh, struck form with a brilliant unbeaten half century as Royal Challengers Bangalore crushed Delhi Daredevils by eight wickets in their opening Indian Premier League match. BANGALORE'S NEW MATCH-WINNER

Yuvraj Singh knocked the winds out of Delhi Daredevils with his lightening 52* in the Indian Premier League. It was an effort which left skipper Virat Kohli enormously pleased. Virat Kohli is a class player whose form has compelled the world of cricket to stand and applaud him. On day two of the Indian Premier League 2014 (Thursday) however, it was Kohli's turn to stand and applaud the knock played by Royal Challengers Bangalore teammate Yuvraj Singh whose unbeaten 52 destroyed Delhi Daredevils by 8 wickets. Chasing 146, RCB batting was powered by Yuvraj who came in to bat at No. 4 and quickly overtook skipper Kohli to complete a power-packed fifty off 28 deliveries. That he was bought for a massive sum of INR 14 crores in the auctions earlier this year, suddenly seemed justifiable. "Yuvraj is a match-winner. KOHLI COMES TO YUVRAJ'S AID

Virat Kohli praised Yuvraj Singh for his unbeaten 52 in the Indian Premier League match against Delhi Daredevils. The Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper lashed out against the previous criticism of the south-paw and said players of Yuvraj's stature need to be backed. Yuvraj on Thursday, hit an unbeaten 52 and shared 84 runs for the unconquered third wicket with Kohli (49 not out) to help RCB chased down the target of 146 with 20 balls to spare. Kohli praised his bowlers for restricting the Daredevils to 145 for four. Delhi Daredevils captain Dinesh Karthik conceded that his side were beaten in all departments of the game. "We didn't bat well enough though Taylor and JP Duminy had a great partnership.
