# Ravichandran Ashwin, in his first seven Tests, has taken his tally to 43 at 26.83 runs apiece, including four instances of five wickets or more in an innings - the most by an Indian bowler, outstripping Narendra Hirwani's tally of 42 at an average of 20.71 in the first seven Tests.
# Ashwin has claimed five wickets or more in each innings of a Test match (6/31 & 6/54) for the first time. He is also the only bowler to perform the feat in a Test match for India against New Zealand.
# For the first time, Ashwin (12/85) has bagged ten wickets or more in a Test match. His previous best figures being 9 for 128 against West Indies at Feroz Shah Kotla in November 2011.
# Ashwin's superb performance is the best by an Indian bowler against New Zealand in a Test match, outstripping Srinivas Venkataraghavan's 12 for 152 at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi in 1964-65. Besides these two bowlers, Erapalli Prasanna (11/140 at Auckland in 1975-76) and Anil Kumble (10/134 at Kanpur in 1999-00) are the Indian bowlers to have claimed ten wickets or more in a Test match against New Zealand.
# Only Courtney Walsh had recorded better figures than Ashwin against New Zealand - 13 for 55 in the 1994-95 Wellington Test.
