Bhopal:

In the latest development to the crisis that the Indian women's hockey team has been facing, the Sports Ministry has announced a total of Rs 1 crore for the cash deprived team.

The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) and the MP government has contributed to the Sports Ministry towards the team.

The MP Government stepped forward after being requested by Sports Ministry

Vinay Rai, the ASSOCHAM Chief, also chipped in Rs 10 lakh in personal capacity.

Speaking to NDTV, the women's team said that they were delighted by the Sports Ministry's decision. They confirmed that the ministry had agreed to pay the team a sum of Rs 1 crore.

Early in the day Suresh Kalmadi, the Indian Olympic Association President, had said that he had collected Rs 1 crore for Indian Women's hockey team.

The women's hockey team had said that they wanted to meet Kalmadi to discuss about the dilemma they were facing due to the lack of funds.

The declaration from the IOA President had come soon after the reel-life coach of the Indian Women's hockey team and Chak De star Shah Rukh Khan tweeted. His tweet read, "Thought Chak De will be good for revival of hockey. Reading the plight of women's team, should think on ways of survival of hockey. All of us."

The women's hockey team, yesterday, had snubbed Hockey India's offer of Rs 50,000 to each member of the team, saying that it was not even half of what HI owed them.
