Power to race in Champ Car season finale

Mexico City:

Team Australia driver Will Power, recovering from a broken wrist, received approval from Champ Car World Series medical officials to race in this week's season-ending Gran Premio Tecate.

Power, last year's top Champ Car rookie, sustained two hairline fractures to his left wrist when he collided with Katherine Legge and slammed into a tire wall during the October 21 race in Australia.

Along with receiving clearance to race, Power also was granted an extra 15 minutes of practice before the first official session on Friday to test a brace specially made for his injured wrist.

"Champ Car is providing us some additional track time and it's greatly appreciated, because it will allow a great opportunity to get the support properly fitted to his wrist so that going into official practice we shouldn't have any issues at all," said team co-owner Derrick Walker.

Power said, "Each day my wrist feels better and I'm confident going into Mexico.

"This track will be the real test, so it will be good to make sure everything is in place on Friday so we can end the season on a high come Sunday," he added.

Power is fourth in the points behind four-time defending series champion Sebastien Bourdais, Justin Wilson and rookie Robert Doornbos.
