The Brazilian, the only rider to have beaten world champion Valentino Rossi this season, was fastest in the second session after claiming third place in opening practice. Rossi struggled in the damp conditions and was only fifth overall as Spain's Sete Gibernau, who is chasing his third successive win at Le Mans, came home in second place after the two sessions. Max Biaggi of Italy was third overall, with America's Colin Edwards coming in fourth.
