English striker Wayne Rooney has agreed to a new deal with Manchester United, worth 300,000 pounds per week. Rooney's previous contract, which would have expired in 2015, paid up to 250,000 pounds a week.
He joined the Red Devils from Everton in August 2004 and needs 42 goals to passing Bobby Charlton's record total of 249 for the club.
Rooney has played 430 games in all competitions and scored 208 goals. The contract is yet to be formally announced.
He looked set to leave Old Trafford last summer after Sir Alex Ferguson claimed he had asked for a transfer, which Rooney denied. Chelsea had more than one bid for him rejected but new boss David Moyes insisted he wanted to keep his former Everton player at Old Trafford.
It seems likely that the coming season will be Rooney's first out of the Champions League since coming to United a decade back. Manchester are 11 points off the top four in the Premier League table.
Rooney has made 28 club appearances this season and scored 11 goals since his return from injury.
