A lone goal from Jose Ricardo helped Colegio Estadul Santo Antonio, Brazil post a hard-fought 1-0 win over Lok Smriti High School, Nepal in the Under-17 boys quarterfinals of the 55th Subroto Cup International football tournament here on Thursday.
The Brazilian team will meet Indonesia in the semifinals, to be played on October 18. The winner of that match will then take on finalists MSP School from Kerala on October 20.
Thursday's match at the Dr Ambedkar Stadium here saw the two teams sweat it out before the Brazilian side managed to prevail over their Asian opponents.
The Nepalese team, particularly goalkeeper Arpan Karki, showed some good, clever defence to deter the Brazilian school from scoring for the major part of the match.
However, in the 45th minute, Ricardo half-volleyed an aerial ball off a low cross from left, which found the target.
Nepal, meanwhile, failed to pierce the Brazilian defence to equalise, let alone surpass them to get a semifinal berth.
