FC Porto defeated Penafiel 1-0 on Saturday to capture its third Portuguese league title in four years. Adriano Louzada scored a 48th-minute penalty awarded after Ibson da Silva was thrown to the ground by Nuno Diogo. It earned Porto its 21st championship and first in its debut season under Dutch coach Co Adriaanse. Fans turn violent Porto fans invaded the pitch in the 89th minute in an anticipated celebration and stripped a few Porto players of their shirts and shorts. Security had to push the players into the locker rooms and the match was suspended. Police surrounded the field as players returned 10 minutes later to play the remaining minute and three minutes of injury time. Fans invaded the pitch a second time after the match officially ended but no incidents were reported. With two rounds left, Porto has 75 points, putting it beyond the reach of second-placed Sporting Lisbon and third-placed Benfica, last year's champion. The team will qualify directly for next season's Champions League, while the Lisbon rivals fight over the runner-up spot that offers a berth in the competition's qualifying rounds.
