London:
Oliver Kahn let a Roberto Carlos free kick slide under his body for a late equaliser as Real Madrid escaped with a 1-1 tie with Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
After Dutch striker Roy Makaay had given Bayern a lead with his sixth goal of the competition in the 75th minute yesterday, it appeared that nine-time champion Real Madrid was headed for its eighth loss to Bayern in Munich.
But Roberto Carlos fired in a trademark long range free kick seven minutes from the end and the ball rolled under Kahn's body and crept over the line.
While the Madrid stars celebrated, Germany's veteran goalkeeper lay on the turf in dismay, knowing that his blunder meant that his team no longer had a lead to take to Madrid in two weeks time.
In yesterday's other games, defending champion AC Milan was held 0-0 by Sparta Prague while English Premier League leader Arsenal won 3-2 at Celta Vigo and Lokomotiv Moscow edged Monaco 2-1. (AP)
