Porto Alegre:
Brazilian championship leaders Sao Paulo were up against rivals Gremio on Sunday.
And it was the away side, which took the lead inside the opening minute through Leandro. Some neat footwork finished off with a sublime left foot finish from outside the area gave Muricy Ramalho's side a perfect start.
The hosts almost got back into the match five minutes later through Lucas, his powerful shot creeping just past the far post.
As the game continued to ebb and flow, another Leandro long-range strike came back off the woodwork.
As the half-time interval drew near, the home side almost drew level thanks to a powerful free kick by Hugo that goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni did well to parry.
Trailing at break
Trailing at the break, the home side came out for the second half with fresh impetus. Just four minutes in and they were back on level terms.
A well-worked move found Hugo at the far post, who controlled and finished in style from close range.
The remainder of the second half failed to match the quality of the first, although Hugo almost snatched a win for the hosts in injury-time, his left foot shot inches flying just wide.
One-one was the final score and a fair result although Gremio will be disappointed at missing a chance to go second in the table.
