Barcelona:
Two goals from Brazil's Rivaldo and one from Javier Saviola of Argentina gave Barcelona a 3-0 win over Real Betis in the Spanish Primera Liga on Saturday. The victory moves the home side from fifth to second, while Betis who were third at the start of play, drop to fifth.
The Spanish Primera Liga's bottom placed side Rayo Vallecano put their poor form behind them and beat league leaders Deportivo La Coruna 2-1 at the Vallecas stadium on Saturday.
Athletic Bilbao salvaged a point at home against Espanyol in the Spanish first division on Sunday, after leading through a first half Aitor Larrazabal penalty and then having Jose Maria Lacruz sent off after 36 minutes.
Valencia kept their unbeaten record in the Spanish Primera Liga intact by holding Sevilla to a one-all draw away from home on Sunday.
Barcelona vs Real Betis
Barcelona were playing Real Betis at the Nou Camp on Saturday. And the home crowd didn't have to wait long for the opening goal, which came after ten minutes. A brilliant back-heel from Patrick Kluivert sent the ball to Javier Saviola who made no mistake with his shot giving Barcelona the lead.
Barcelona got their second goal four minutes into the second half. Saviola sent over a cross for Rivaldo to head home at the far post. And finally Rivaldo ended the game with his second and Barcelona's third on the hour when his shot from the edge of the penalty area took a slight deflection off a Betis defender. Barcelona cruising to a 3-0 victory...
Deportivo La Coruna vs Vallecano
Despite their lowly league standing, Vallecano tested the league leaders Deportivo La Coruna. Elvir Bolic scored his first goal of the season after running on to De Jesus Glaucio's pass and smashing the ball through Nuno's legs for a 1-0 lead.
Substitute Walter Pandiani put the visitors back on level terms, calmly slotting the ball past the keeper to make it 1-1.
But five minutes later Bolic split Deportivo's defence with a measured pass and Glaucio finished off the move with aplomb to make it 2-1.
Bilbao vs Espanyol
Bilbao opened the scoring, skipper Aitor Larrazabal making the spot kick and giving the home side the lead after 16 minutes. Espanyol finally got the equaliser in the 69th minute, Mexican striker Juan Francisco Palencia scoring for the visitors. The match finished 1-1.
Seville vs Valencia
Valencia travelled to Sevilla on Sunday, taking the lead in the 19th minute. David Albelda let rip with a vicious effort, which Notario could only block, and Albelda gratefully slotted in the rebound.
Seville equalised nine seconds into the second half, Moises Garcia hitting the back of the net with a brilliant strike and so it remained till the final whistle.
And in some other results, Alaves lost to Las Palmas 1-0, Celta Vigo drew 1-1 with Valladolid, Malaga beat Real Zaragosa 2-0 in an away match. Osasuna trounced Real Mallorca 4-0 and Real Madrid scored only their third win in the La Liga against Villareal.
