Sunil Chhetri scored a brace as Bengaluru scored a deserving 3-1 win over defending champions Churchill Brothers to open a gap at the top over Pune FC in the I-League match at Duler Stadium in Mapusa on Friday.
After a barren first half, Bengaluru scored through Sean Rooney (50th min) and a brace by Sunil Chhetri (64th, 77th min).
Churchill Brothers pulled one back through substitute Balwant Singh.
Bengaluru who took their tally to 24 points from 12 matches opened a gap over Pune FC by three points who have played a match less.
Churchill, after Friday's defeat, remain at the bottom with 7 points from eleven matches.
