Florence, Italy:

Fiorentina confirmed on Friday it had acquired forward Christian Vieri, signing the 34-year-old to on a one-year contract.

The former Italy striker was to be officially presented Saturday, the Serie A club said in a statement.

Vieri, who will be making his 13th transfer in 17 seasons, reportedly signed for $2.07 million.

His contract had expired with Atalanta, where he scored two goals in seven games after returning from knee surgery at the end of last season.

Vieri has 134 goals in his Serie A career and led Italy with five goals at the 1998 World Cup. He was also the top scorer in the Spanish league with 24 goals in 24 games while playing for Atletico Madrid in 1997.

The Viola hope Vieri will help fill the void left by Italy striker Luca Toni, who joined Bayern Munich at the end of last season in a $15.2 million transfer.

Vieri has also played for Monaco, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Lazio, Juventus, Venezia, Ravenna, Pisa and Torino.

He signed for Sampdoria last year, before canceling his contract by mutual consent to join Atalanta.

In its first preseason friendly on Friday, Fiorentina beat amateur side Team Alpe Suisi 13-0.

Forwards Adrian Mutu and Arturo Lupoli, who signed from Arsenal in February, scored three goals apiece Friday.
