But a Swansea side showing eight changes from their previous game were level 11 minutes later when Jonathan de Guzman got between Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines to head in Neil Taylor's cross.
But it was Taylor's careless backpass that Steven Naismith intercepted to put the Toffees in front in the 65th minute.
Leighton Baines then put the result beyond doubt with a 72nd minute penalty after Jaz Richards brought down Naismith in the box.
Sunday's other all Premier League tie sees title rivals Arsenal and Liverpool meeting at the Emirates Stadium - a match that will stir memories of the Gunners' 1971 FA Cup final win over the Merseysiders that saw the London club clinch a domestic league and cup 'double'.
Elsewhere, Championship club Nottingham Forest will face a third-tier Sheffield United side managed by former Forest favourite Nigel Clough.
Clough, the son of legendary Forest manager Brian, started his career as a player at the City Ground. But it was in his role as manager of Forest's Midlands rivals Derby County that Nigel Clough had a run-in with Forest manager Billy Davies following a touchline row during a game at Derby's Pride Park in 2010.
Davies accused Clough of kneeing him in the back during a melee which involved players and coaching staff. Clough later denied the allegation.
Three subsequent matches saw Forest beat Clough's Derby on every occasion. The last meeting proved pivotal, with Clough sacked by Derby just two days after a 1-0 defeat by Forest in September.
