Ex-China deputy football chief jailed for graft

The former deputy head of China's football association has been sentenced to 10 years in prison as part of a crackdown on corruption and match-fixing.

The official Xinhua News Agency said Yang Yimin was convicted of taking 1.25 million yuan ($200,000) in bribes and sentenced Saturday to 10-1/2 years in prison.

Yang's successor on the referees' committee, Zhang Jianqiang, was also sentenced to 12 years in prison for taking bribes totalling 2.73 million yuan ($433,000).

Referee Lu Jun, who officiated two games at the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan, was sentenced on Thursday to 5-1/2 years in jail for taking about nearly $130,000 to fix seven league matches.
