The AIFF today decided upon the date of the tournament, the third oldest in the history of the game, which was won by Chirag United SC last year when they beat JCT in the finals.
"It is intimated that AIFF has allotted the date for 124th edition of Durand Football Tournament 2011 with effect from 01 Oct - 15 Oct 2011," Mahesh Gill, Hony Secy Gen of DFTS said in a release.
"The preliminary stage or knockout series will be conducted in the second fortnight of September 2011," it added.
Mohun Bagan and East Bengal are the two most successful teams, winning the prestigious tournament 16 times each since its inception in the year 1888.
