David de Gea has been one of the best goalkeepers in the world in the last few years. His incredible performances for Manchester United have seen him win the club's 'Player of The Year' award for three consecutive years, a unique feat at England's most successful footballing institution.
Â
With his lightning-quick reflexes, De Gea has arguably been United's best player in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era. On Monday night, he once again came to his team's rescue in the Premier League clash against bitter rivals Liverpool at Anfield.
Â
With Jose Mourinho's United playing a conservative brand of football, the Red Devils were seen chasing the ball for long periods of the game. Despite some solid defensive organisation from United, Liverpool did come close to scoring twice.
Â
De Gea's amazing reflexes denied Liverpool on both occasions, first from an Emre Can effort from close range in the second half, when the United custodian dived to his right and put the ball away to safety, much to the frustration of the Anfield home crowd.
Â
A few minutes later, Philippe Coutinho unleashed a right-footed curler from outside the box. His effort was headed into the top left corner of the goal. A second later, the Liverpool fans behind the goal had their hands on their heads in sheer disbelief, as De Gea jumped to his left and acrobatically diverted the ball away for a corner.

Â
It was a moment of brilliance from the Spaniard, one that even Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp acknowledged at the end of the game.
Â
The famous North-West 'derby' eventually finished goalless, as both sides played safe and seemed satisfied in settling for a point.
Â
"They didn't create chances, maybe two in the second half, and De Gea made two or three great saves, but in the end our performance was not what it should be," said Liverpool manager Klopp.
Â
Â
"We weren't calm enough. That is not the way we want to play, but I accept it. We got a point. There are worse things in the world."
Â
In a game where chances were a rarity, and most fans were left disappointed by the brand of football in display, it was goalkeeper David de Gea who turned out to be the brightest spot.
Â
With United having struggled to get their season going this term, it remains to be seen how much the point at Anfield helps the team's morale.
