The All India Football Federation (AIFF) will hold a discussion with I-League clubs on its proposed new format for next season of the tournament on Tuesday.
The AIFF is planning to revamp the I-League in the lines of Major League Soccer (MLS) of USA to make it more entertaining.
However, AIFF general secretary Kushal Das wants to get the views of the clubs before taking a decision.
According to an AIFF source, general secretary Kushal Das today met with IMG-Reliance and is now contemplating taking the views of the clubs before embarking on changing the format of the I-League from the next season.
"Today Mr Das had a meeting with the officials of IMG-Reliance and now he is planning to discuss the change of format with the clubs. The AIFF will meet all the I-League clubs tomorrow in this regard," a source in the federation said.
The plan was proposed by AIFF's marketing partner IMG-Reliance. If everything goes according to plan then the lucrative league is likely to be a two-tier championship involving 16 teams.
