Thumb injury rules Pietersen out of 5th ODI

England batsmen Kevin Pietersen was on Tuesday ruled out of the 5th and final ODI against India after suffering a fractured left thumb during the 4th ODI in Mumbai.

Kevin Pietersen was on Tuesday ruled out of the 5th and final ODI against India after suffering a fractured left thumb during the 4th ODI in Mumbai.

"Scans have revealed Pietersen has a fractured left thumb after being struck while fielding during the second innings of Sunday's match," England and Wales Cricket Board release said.

"He will remain with the England team and continue to undergo assessment and treatment in a bid to prove his fitness ahead of England's forthcoming international Twenty20 fixture against India on Saturday," the release added.
