Injured and out of action, Zaheer Khan said on Thursday that he had got a surgery done on his injured right ankle.
"Got the surgery done on ankle on Monday....", Zaheer tweeted on Thursday. The left-armer also posted a picture of his treated ankle.
Later in the day, the pace spearhead tweeted: "Recovering well ....getting used to walking on crutches."
"Can't wait for my injury rehab program to start next week."
Zaheer also thanked friend and teammate Yuvraj Singh, who has also been ruled out of the England series due to an injury, for looking after him. "#thankyou @yuvsingh09 for looking after me post surgery, have a safe flight back home," Zaheer posted.
It is expected that Zaheer's injury will take 14-16 weeks post surgery to heal completely.
Zaheer, who had to miss out on the action after straining his hamstring during the first innings of the Lord's Test had sustained an ankle injury before the third Test. He bowled just 3 overs in the two-day tour game against the Northamptonshire team.
Zaheer Khan had been India's main man with the new ball after being the joint leading wicket-taker in the 2011 World Cup, but had a disappointing start to the all important England tour.
This is not the first time that Zaheer has had trouble with the right ankle. He had to miss out on the entire West Indies tour with the same problem after playing extensive limited overs cricket in the days leading up to the series.
