Durban:
"We had a few plans. Our bowling didn't go well in the last couple of matches but here we were spot on and executed the plans well," Yuvraj said after seven-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday.
"We experimented with the bowling, shuffled it around and it worked in the end. We bowled and batted well and stuck to our plans. I'm happy with the result," he was quoted as saying by the official IPL website.
Yuvraj also singled out Ravi Bopara, the England player of Indian origin, for his outstanding performance which also earned him man-of-the-match award.
"The way Ravi batted was outstanding. We batted well, bowled well, picked up wickets at crucial stages," he said.
Yuvraj also disclosed that his team planned to play it safe against champion leg-spinner Anil Kumble.
"We were clear in our minds that Kumble has bowled well in this tournament and we shouldn't give him a wicket. We looked to have wickets in hand and go for the kill towards the end," he said.
About the pitch, Yuvraj said: "I knew the wicket was good, skidding on nicely, and with the shorter boundaries I didn't really worry. I decided to take my time and backed myself to score at a good rate later."
Yuvraj, whose team lost due to rains in their previous two matches, said "thank God there was no rain today. I am happy with the 20-over game."
Kings XI Punjab coach Tom Moody, on his part, said the team had a different approach coming into the match.
"The main difference was that we got 40 overs of a match. Our players got a chance to express themselves on the field.
Bopara batted really well. He showed that he can be destructive and cautious at the same time," he said.
Moody also praised Yusuf Abdullah, who finish with a four-for figure.
"Yusuf had the backing of senior players and has a great record in domestic Twenty20 cricket in South Africa. It was great for him to get some confidence going," he said.
