Vijay Hazare Trophy: Ajinkya Rahane Century Goes in Vain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni Contributes In a Win for Jharkhand

Ajinkya Rahane smashed a magnificent century but his knock was eclipsed by a fine 94 from Rajat Bhatia as Mumbai lost to Rajasthan. Mahendra Singh Dhoni contributed to a victory for Jharkhand while Uttar Pradesh sealed their place in the quarter-finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Ajinkya Rahane's ton goes in vain for Mumbai
Rajat Bhatia's unbeaten 94 eclipsed Ajinkya Rahane's strokeful 114 in Rajasthan's five-wicket win over Mumbai.
Bhatia's blistering innings off 71 balls helped Rajasthan chase down the 302-run target in 49 overs. Rahane, playing his second match of the domestic competition, steered Mumbai to 301 for nine.
Besides Bhatia's brilliant effort, Ashok Menaria came up with a 80-ball 86 to contribute to the team's cause. The other contributions came from Puneet Yadav (49) and Dishant Yagnik (40).
Uttar Pradesh Enter Quarter-Finals
Uttar Pradesh trounced Goa by six wickets in a Group D match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy and entered the knock-out stage.   ÂÂ
Uttar Pradesh, led by Suresh Raina and having a few national players, won the toss and put Goa in to bat.   ÂÂ
UP bowlers bundled out Goa for 218 off 49.5 overs and then chased down the target, reaching 224 for four in just 36.3 overs.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni Contributes in Jharkhand Win
Mahendra Singh Dhoni chipped in with a useful 30-ball 37 as Jharkhand thrashed Railways by 115 runs.
Coming in at 122 for 3 in the 33rd over, Dhoni stitched a 38-run partnership with top-scorer Saurabh Tiwary (49 off 66 balls) for the fourth wicket to help Jharkhand, who batted first, reach 211 for five in a 45-over-a-side match at the KSCA Cricket Ground.
Dhoni hit a four and two sixes in his knock.
Services Continue Winning Run
Diwesh Gurdev Pathania and Amit Pachhara shone with the ball and bat respectively before Rajat Paliwal's breezy half century as Services posted an easy six-wicket win over Assam in the Vijay Hazare tournament.
Electing to bat in the Group A match, Assam scored 261 for eight in the stipulated 50 overs, and then saw the opposition chase down the target of 262 with almost five overs to spare.
Jammu and Kashmir Suffer Fourth Consecutive Loss
There was no end to Jammu and Kashmir's woes as they suffered their fourth defeat failing to chase a modest 188-run target against Gujarat.
Jammu and Kashmir bowlers did a decent job as they bundled out Gujarat for just 187 in 49.2 overs after electing to bowl at KSCA Cricket Ground.
Medium paceman Omar Alam (3/31) and spinner Waseem Raza (3/38) shared six wickets between them.
For Gujarat Ruzul Bhatt top scored with a 66-run knock Axar Patel (27) and Rohit Dahiya (27) were the other notable contributors. Rush Kalaria (20) was another batsman to manage a double-digit score.
Madhya Pradesh Outclass Bengal
Rajat Patidar, Harpreet Singh and Anand Singh scored blistering half centuries as Madhya Pradesh outplayed Bengal by five wickets in the Vijay Hazare ODI tournament group D match here.
Put into bat, Bengal made 262 but their bowlers failed to defend the total as Madhya Pradesh overcame the target in 46.5 overs at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Khandheri stadium.
Delhi Inch Towards Quarters
Milind Kumar successfully anchored a modest run-chase with an unbeaten 58 as Delhi beat Maharashtra by five wickets in a group C encounter to inch closer towards the quarter-finals.
Delhi have 16 points from five matches with four victories to their credit and are currently third in the group behind Vidarbha (+1.426) and Baroda (+1.114), who are also on 16 points but enjoy a better Net Run Rate (NNR) than the hosts (+0.727).
Umesh Yadav Helps Vidarbha Thrash Andhra Pradesh
Umesh Yadav led a supreme bowling charge as Vidarbha shot out Andhra Pradesh for 87 runs to win their Group C league match by 10 wickets on Thursday.
Electing to field at the Palam B Ground, Model Sports Complex, Vidarbha bowlers justified the think-tank's decision to pack the Andhra side for 87 in 25.3 overs.
