Victoria are planning to fight fire with fire by roping in either master blaster Adam Gilchrist or Shane Warne for the title showdown.

Melbourne:

While New South Wales have gone ahead and recruited New Zealand opener Brendon McCullum for Friday's domestic Twenty20 final, opponents Victoria are planning to fight fire with fire by roping in either master blaster Adam Gilchrist or Shane Warne for the title showdown.

Victoria are without skipper hard-hitting batsmen Brad Hodge, who suffered a hamstring injury in the semi-final and has been ruled out.

Explosive batsmen David Hussey and Cameron White are both on national duty and would not be to take part in the final. "We're exploring our options. There are some perfectly legal avenues there we can look at," Cricket Victoria general manager Shaun Graf told 'Daily Telegraph'.

Non-contracted domestic or overseas players can be signed and played by states at any stage of the season.

Once they play in Australia, they are eligible to represent that state in the Champion's League provided their own teams do not qualify for the tournament.

McCullum is contracted to the Kolkata Knight Riders, Gilchrist with the Deccan Chargers and Warne is the skipper of Rajasthan Royals.

Cricket NSW chief executive David Gilbert was happy to have landed McCullum.

"With the potential losses the NSW squad may suffer depending on which two IPL teams qualify for the Champions League, it is vital that we strengthen our squad ahead of that tournament," Gilbert said.

Graf said Victoria had no issue with the Blues signing McCullum.

"We've known that it's in the rules that you're able to sign an overseas player at any stage," he was quoted as saying in 'The Daily Telegraph'.
