Team India to leave for Colombo on Friday sans Dhoni

The Indian cricket team will leave for Sri Lanka from on Friday to play three Tests and a tri-nation ODI series starting July 18.

Chennai:

The Indian cricket team, sans newly-married skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, will leave for Sri Lanka from on Friday to play three Tests and a tri-nation ODI series starting July 18.

Pacer duo of S Sreesanth and Abhimanyu Mithun, who replaces the injured Zaheer Khan, arrived in the city.

Among other members of the team, senior batsmen Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman also arrived here. Tendulkar had missed his morning flight.

Other players, including vice-captain Virender Sehwag and his opening partner Gautam Gambhir, were expected to arrive later in the night.

Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, accompanied by his wife Sakshi, arrived here on Thursday evening. They will be reaching Sri Lanka directly.

Incidentally, a function to honour Chennai Super Kings title triumph in IPL 3 and to extend honorary membership to Dhoni for his achievements as captain of India and CSK is slated to be organised here on Friday night by Madras Cricket Club inside the Chepauk stadium.
