BCCI has not named a replacement for Suresh Raina
Suresh Raina will miss the first ODI between India and New Zealand in Dharamsala on October 16. Raina is recovering from a bout of viral fever.
Suresh Raina was chosen for the first three ODIs against New Zealand. He last played an ODI in October 2015. Injuries to Shikhar Dhawan and Lokesh Rahul had enabled Raina to find his way back into the national team.
The BCCI did not name a replacement for Suresh Raina. India have enough batting in the middle-order to fill in for the left-handed Raina, who can also double up as a handy off-spinner.
Raina was omitted for the ODIs in Australia and the limited-overs tour of Zimbabwe earlier this year besides the two-match T20 series against the West Indies in USA.
Raina has not had time in the middle since the Duleep Trophy where his scores read 52, 35 and 90.
Raina led Uttar Pradesh in the team's Ranji Trophy opener against Madhya Pradesh last week but did not come out to bat. Uttar Pradesh suffered an innings and 64 run defeat at the hands of Madhya Pradesh.
