When Sachin Tendulkar walks out on the field, fans hold their breath in awe. On Friday, it was the reverse as the veteran cricketer celebrated 100 schools being included in NDTV's Support My School campaign.
As hundreds of school children cheered Tendulkar, the batsman himself said that he thought of his own children when he became a part of this initiative. "I know how important schools are. I have two children. Proper facilities are extremely important, especially for girls. Having proper facilities have helped so many girls join and stay in schools. I have done my bit keeping Sarah in mind," he said.
He may be mercy-less on the field but Tendulkar said he was overwhelmed by the resounding success of the campaign. "I was speaking to the principal of a school which has been under this campaign. He said the children are so much happier. It gives me immense satisfaction that we are moving in the right direction," he said adding that schools are where people make the best of friends and provides a platform for life.
The cheer from the children gathered here may well have been mistaken as any other cheer in a stadium. To Tendulkar though, it was proof that the ball has been set rolling towards fulfilling dreams of tomorrow's India.
