Australia star batter Steve Smith was warned by the umpires after he appeared to encourage Bangladesh fielders to challenge an unsuccessful LBW appeal on Day 1 of the second Test match on Saturday. The incident occurred during the 9th over of the Australian innings when Taskin Ahmed struck Smith on the pads. The Bangladesh fielder went up for the appeal but umpire Nitin Menon turned it down. Taskin was not convinced and while he was trying to convince skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto to take a review, Smith decided to join in. Smith could be heard telling the fielders that he was well ahead and the ball was missing the stumps. “I'm halfway down the wicket to him, it's going miles over,” Smith said during the exchange. "Go for it," he added.

Replays showed Smith gesturing towards the Bangladesh fielders and it looked like the Australia batter was encouraging them to go for the review later. Shanto decided against it. Shortly after, both on-field umpires walked up to Smith and had a conversation with him. Smith had a brief chat with both umpires before play resumed once again.
Mitchell Starc etched his name in the history books as the Australia pacer became the leading wicket-taker in World Test Championship (WTC) history, producing a sensational spell against Bangladesh in the second Test in Mackay on Saturday.
Starc tore through Bangladesh's batting line-up and finished with great figures of 6-12 as Australia bowled the visitors out for just 64 after winning the toss and opting to field first.
The veteran pacer's stunning spell saw him overtake Australia teammate Pat Cummins to become the highest wicket-taker in WTC history. He now has 230 wickets in 56 matches, moving ahead of Cummins and Nathan Lyon, who have 225 wickets each.
India's Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah complete the top five with 195 and 185 wickets respectively.
Starc's six-wicket haul also took him to the top of the wicket-takers' list in the ongoing WTC 2025-27 cycle. He now has 54 wickets from 10 Tests, moving ahead of England's Josh Tongue, who has 53.
